Welcome

Welcome to Move the Chains – a blog about living with chronic illness, fighting through adversity, and love of pro football, namely the San Francisco 49ers.

You’ll find four categories: Game Day Mindset (posts aboout motivation & finding strength in hard seasons), Off The Field (my life with chronic illness), Turf Talk (hot takes & football talk), and Extra Points (creative & lighthearted posts). There is also a sidebar of topics.

I hope this blog becomes your own huddle: a safe place where you can share your own stories of adversity & how you move forward, your personal inspirations, and/or your love of pro football.

So, throw on your gameday style, grab your favorite snack, and let’s get this game started!

When I became sick, the 49ers became my inspiration and motivation. Their grit, resilience, and “never say die” attitude became a part of my own playbook in fighting my illness. Football has taught me that the fight isn’t about perfection – it’s about progress – a few yards at a time, moving the chains, finding a way to move forward no matter how tough the opponent. That’s the core of this blog…facing adversity and fighting to move forward, to accumulate “yardage”, by inches if necessary, in life, love, and football.

The blog is divided into four categories: Game Day Mindset (posts aboout motivation, resilience, and finding strength in hard seasons), Off The Field  (my life with chronic illness), Turf Talk (hot takes & football talk from a red &gold heart), and Extra Points (fun, personal, creative, and often lighthearted posts). There is also a sidebar of topics. Feel free to go straight to whatever category or topic interests you, read my most recent posts, or just explore the blog.

Move the Chains is where my two worlds collide: my journey with chronic illness, my 49ers fandom, and how my team helps me to keep fighting for the life that I want. I hope it becomes a place that you can share your own adversity and fight for inches, what inspires you, as well as love for and memories of the San Francisco 49ers.

So, throw on your gameday style, grab your favorite snack, and let’s get this game started!

No, Not That Kind of POTS: A POTS Primer

If you’re new to the world of POTS — or if you’ve been living with it and still feel like you’re trying to solve a medical escape room — this post breaks down the basics in plain English. Think of it as your starter guide to a condition that’s anything but simple, written by someone who lives it every single day.

It Was Never About The Team: When Your Body Let’s You Down

When Joe Burrow said football wasn’t fun
anymore, NFL media looked for drama. I heard something different: the quiet grief that comes when your body no longer does what it once could. This post is about chronic illness, grief, resilience, & learning to keep going when your body lets you down.

About Me

Get To Know Me

Hi, I’m Tara

I currently live with my mom, our dog, PJ, and my cat, Lyric, in Northeastern Pennsylvania. I created Move the Chains to share two big parts of my life: living with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), a form of Dysautonomia, and my love of the San Francisco 49ers. At first glance, those two things might seem like totally disparate topics, but for me, they’re deeply connected.
